On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, Abby Lee Miller was sentenced to 367 days in a federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

The 50-year-old, “Dance Moms” star, was convicted of an ongoing case against her for bankruptcy fraud. Initially, she was indicted with 20 cases including, concealment of assets, and false declarations concerning her money. In addition to jail time, she was fined $40,000, had to pay $12,000 judgment, and supply a DNA sample pertaining to her charge.

In 2010, Miller filed bankruptcy and later admitted to having $400,000 of unpaid taxes. Also, the reality star was accused of stowing away $120,000 in luggage that she and her friends took on a trip out of the country in April 2014.

Miller had plenty to say for herself during her sentencing. She stated that her actions concerning the money were in no way an attempt to trick anyone, but rather just a way to keep her business running.

Prior to her sentencing, she read a statement in front of a judge saying how ashamed she was to be meeting him under the circumstances. She said she wanted him to take her class to see how she loves what she does.

When Miller was sentenced on Tuesday, she told the courtroom how sorry she was for what she did and how her name had been dragged through the mud.

Prosecutors said Miller continually lied about what income and contracts she truly had. However, the bankruptcy judge happened across her show while channel surfing. He came to the conclusion that she must be making more money than she originally stated.

Before being sentenced, Miller told People magazine that she was afraid of going to jail for fear of rape or abuse. Now that she has been sentenced, she says she will have to adjust to life because it is not what she is used to. However, she says that she has peace because she will keep busy while working on a new show.

While it has not been indicated the time or location for Miller to report to prison, her lawyer requested that she serve her time in California, where she spends most of her time. Judge Conti agreed. He said he wanted Miller to serve her wherever she is likely to have strong support.
