In the last six years I have witnessed a level of ignorance I previously believed incomprehensible in our nation’s history. I thought that no one could reach a higher level of incompetence and stupidity than our 43rd President. Then came the 2008 election and the most insidious event in my lifetime. The Republican Party nominated the most unqualified and uneducated person in the history of the United States to be the running mate of the long time representative from Arizona, aging Senator John McCain. The fact that half-Governor Sarah Palin could have been within a heartbeat of becoming the leader of the most powerful nation in the world was not just frightening, it was horrific.
The former ‘half-governor’ displayed both an increasing level of ignorance and a complete lack of sensitivity once again a few days ago. She published pictures of her young son standing on the family dog to wash dishes on the internet. Animal activists railed against the act. Palin responded to comments from PETA saying that they should ‘chill’ and ‘at least Trig didn’t eat the dog.’
Palin claims that she enjoys having people hate her. She isn’t intelligent enough to get it. She’s not the object of hate. She is nothing more than an embarrassment and a pitiful parody of a buffoon. Sarah Palin has had far more than her ten minutes of fame. It’s time for her to hibernate for the winter; maybe longer. The fact that the Republican Party invites her to speak and represent them greatly diminishes the credibility of the GOP. What ‘Caribou Barbie’ should be doing is teaching her children morality and civility. She might consider having them read a book and possibly seek anger management counseling.
In September 2014 the character of the Palin family was exposed for the world to see. It was her husband Todd’s birthday. Having a celebration at their home was apparently insufficient. They proceeded to take a limousine and ‘crash’ the birthday party of an acquaintance. A brawl ensued. The Palin family contradicts statements made by the owner of the house where the party was being held, Korey Klingenmeyer. He told police officers that the Palins, specifically Bristol and Track, began the fight, and that he was angry that they showed up uninvited.
The police report supports the statements made by Klingenmeyer and his guests. Bristol Palin insists that she was thrown on the ground and dragged by her hair. Witnesses claim that Bristol punched Klingenmeyer in the face five or six times; he did not react. He finally grabbed her fist, pushed it back, and she fell to the ground. She got up, attempted to punch the homeowner once again, and again he grabbed her fist; she fell backwards onto the ground once more. Police described the Palins as being intoxicated, and Klingenmeyer as ‘slightly’ intoxicated.
It is obvious whenever Sarah Palin speaks in public that she considers to believe the public sees her as ‘cutesy,’ and ‘folksy.’ She might have been described in such a manner in 2008, now she’s simply viewed as foolish and uneducated.
The Republican Party greatly needs to return to the ideals of the GOP and elect people who represent traditional values. They must find intelligent legislators who understand the realities of government; they must represent all of the people. It is obvious that as long as individuals such as Sarah Palin, Rick Perry and Michelle Bachman are standard bearers, the Republican Party will continue to be fodder for the late night talk show comedians.
