Gordon Hayward Signs With Boston Celtics

Gordon Hayward Signs With Boston Celtics

Although fans and the Utah Jazz organization feel betrayed by Gordon Hayward, he feels that signing with the Boston Celtics is the best route for him to achieve success. He formerly played for Celtics’ head coach Brad Stevens at Butler University, when they went to the NCAA National Championship two years in a row.

As the Boston Celtics have improved tremendously over the last three years, Hayward is a great addition to this team bringing in defense, scoring. and rebounding. As the No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics did not have enough to overcome defending champions, Cleveland Cavaliers.

The only downfall in signing Hayward to a maximum four-year contract is that Boston had to part ways with shooting guard Avery Bradley, and Center Kelly Olynyk. However, the Celtics received power forward Marcus Morris from the Detroit Pistons. After receiving the No.3 pick in the NBA Draft, Jayson Tatum, the 6-foot, 8-inch rookie also adds size and scoring to the Celtic’s roster.

According to the NBA, Hayward stated that the team’s goal is to win a championship, and he looks forward to doing so, in his first year with the Celtics. Hayward also plans on becoming a better player to help them reach their goal to raise Banner 18. Although Hayward now wears green and white, will he be enough to get the Celtics to the next level after averaging 21.9 PPG, 3.5 APG, and 5.4 RPG?

Hayward stated “Being a playmaker, trying to make some plays to get other people shots to help us spread the attack around,” elaborating on the strengths he will bring to Boston. “I think I’m a versatile player offensively and defensively, and that will help us to have guys playing multiple positions. I can start the offense; I can play with the ball, without the ball.”

With Al Horford and Isaiah Thomas surrounding him, the Celtics may have the talent they need to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers next season.

According to Hoops Hype, Hayward’s father Gordon Hayward Sr. gave his input on why his son made this decision. He stated, “If the Celtics had beaten Cleveland in the Conference Finals it would’ve changed Hayward’s decision.” Since Boston was humiliated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Hayward felt he would be the missing piece of the puzzle to defeat Cleveland.

High expectations are required for the Boston Celtics this upcoming fall. After exceeding all expectations this year, there is no doubt that this young experienced squad has a bright and promising future.
