A fight that has been anticipated for so long has the media jumping for more news about the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor match. Yahoo Sports reports this fight is scheduled for Aug. 26, 2017 will “potentially bigger than the Super Bowl.”
McGregor is an inexperienced boxer, but his MMA fighting style includes boxing, kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do, Capoeira, and Karate. “McGregor is the reigning UFC Lightweight champion, and Mayweather is arguably the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all time, with a perfect 49-0 record and championships in five weight divisions.”
Being that Mayweather retired in 2015, some sources say this could be his last fight, however, he is hoping to defend his title at the end of the year. On July 2, 2015, Conan O’Brien asked McGregor if he would ever take on Mayweather in a boxing match. The UFC fighter replied:
Duh! If you’re asking would I like to fight Floyd Mayweather, I mean, who would not like to dance around the ring for $180 million? If we were to get it on, I would most certainly dismantle him also.
The press reported that Mayweather made a comment regarding the $180 million McGregor wanted for the fight.
Mayweather posted a screen shot on Twitter showing his net worth at $650 million, compared to McGregor’s net worth at $2.5 million, and he said “Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M.”
During the media tour, promoting Mayweather vs. McGregor, the boxer showed the UFC Lightweight champion a check for $100 million. He said, “Let me show you what a $100 million fighter looks like.”
