The conversation between President Trump and James Comey at the dinner was inappropriate.
Comey, former head of the FBI, has had nine meetings with President Trump within four months of him taking office. On the other hand, the former FBI director only had two conversations with Obama during his time as president.
President Trump had these meetings because hoped it would lead to the need for a special prosecutor to head the Russia investigation.
Comey assured Trump that he personally was not under investigation. According to his testimony, the president said, “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” On June 8, 2017, Trump’s lawyer indicated that the president never told Comey “he needs loyalty, and that he expects loyalty.”
According to CNN, after the inauguration, Trump told the former FBI director he looked forward to working with him. This caused Comey to wonder what went wrong.
When Trump fired him, he said he did so based on Comey’s public handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. He said his decisions affected his leadership of the FBI. According to The New York Times Trump stated, he agreed with the judgment of the Department of Justice that Comey as wnot able to effectively lead the FBI, in a letter dated Tuesday, May 9.
