Once again Donald Trump is on his soapbox claiming that any person protesting is paid by some group or individual. So, Mr. President, please disclose this entity so everybody can cash in on the action.
Inquiring minds want to know who is bankrolling the numerous protests taking place, especially those Trump is pointing his fingers toward. According to the president’s Twitter feed on April 16, 2017, he not only believes his rhetoric but is calling for an investigation.
It is an interesting conundrum, this anonymous funding source that pays folks to rally against Trump. He has repeated this claim for months, yet does not offer further information. Perhaps, he is keeping the answer to this puzzle under his red ball cap.
More likely, this is another of misdirection on Trump’s part. Americans took to the streets by the thousands in protest of the president’s blatant refusal to release his tax returns. The event, called, Tax Day Protest took place on April 15, the traditional deadline for filing one’s personal taxes.
Frankly, no one is asking Trump to disclose anything out of the ordinary. In the past, most presidential candidates have released their documents before the final election.
Americans have a valid concern about Trump’s businesses. They deserve to know whether or not he has divested himself of any endeavor that, he and his wallet, could benefit from while he wields a pen to pass laws or make deals on behalf of the United States.
In refusing to comply with America’s request, President Trump makes himself appear guilty. The question remains, why? Why not release the documents once and for all, so that the issue can be put to rest? Or, is this his ultimate plan? Refuse. Then cast blame. Redirect and hope people forget.
Please, disclose the information about how protesters are paid. With the national unemployment rate at 4.5 percent in March 2017, it is certain there are enough people to populate the rally lines, especially if they can earn a buck or two. That translates to 5.3 million Americans who could benefit from the temporary employment offered for protesting, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor.
If Trump would substantiate his claims about this unknown entity who offers to supplement the incomes of those willing to protest the president’s erratic actions, and behavior, then, there would be many appreciative people. Perhaps, even, they might begin to favor him a bit and his historically low approval ratings may start to rise.
In the meantime, protests will continue. Both the right and left wing constituents have every right to use the guarantees of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. President Trump is a likely target, as he seems to love inciting the population one way or another.
The fact is this—the only people who financially benefit from these organized protests are law enforcement officers and city cleaning crews. Instead of berating Americans for speaking out about their concerns, Trump could try a little diplomacy and perhaps give them what they need—release his taxes and put this to rest once and for all!
