Donald Trump is expected to name Rex Tillerson, 64, secretary of state. Tillerson was president of the Texas-based oil company in 2004. He also has a close business related relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Tillerson’s career was mostly at the Exxon Mobil company. As the CEO, he runs operations in over 50 countries, as well as Russia.
Exxon and Rosneft entered into a business agreement 2011. The deal is with Russia’s largest state-owned oil company. The two companies agreed to work together exploring oil and production solutions. “Since then, the companies have formed 10 joint ventures for projects.” according to New York Post.
The potential nominee and Trump met Saturday at Trump Towers, Manhattan, New York, according to the president-elect spokesperson.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney were in the running for secretary of state. Giuliani reported on Friday that he had taken his name out of consideration. Tillerson will be grouped with former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as deputy secretary of state for day management for the department.
The Public Slate will release further information when it becomes available.
