‘The Hurt Business’ Reveals Mixed Martial Arts Glory and Struggles

"The Hurt Business"

“The Hurt Business” is a documentary revealing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) glory and struggles, trials and tribulations, through interviews with fighters and others. It is a film that profiles various fighters and depicts the effect of the sport on their lives. The popularity of MMA and its recent explosive growth is also explored. Whereas the National Football League has tried, until recently, to avoid the issue of concussions and brain trauma, this documentary confronts the issue within the MMA without gloss.

Produced and directed by Vlad Yudin, who counts the 2015 “Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer” among his accomplishments, “The Hurt Business” is a slick production that reveals mixed martial arts glory and struggles despite its cinéma-vérité approach. The film depicts the athleticism of the participants, together with the brutality of their events. It also allows the viewer to empathize with some of the fighters in life’s daily struggles.

“The Hurt Business” documentary is packed with recognizable MMA fighters. An interview with Ronda Rousey exhibits her bravado about her planned victory in her UFC 193 match, held in Australia, in November 2015. However, she in fact, lost to Holly Holm. The film also includes appearances by Jon “Bones” Jones, Rashad “Suga” Evans and others. Released by Fathom Events, the total running time is about 107 minutes. With its revealing look at mixed martial arts glory and struggles, “The Hurt Business” will be in select theaters nationwide on Sept. 29, 2016.
