Demi Lovato has a tough year. The 23-year-old singer announced her split with Wilmer Valderrama just hours after attending her great-grandmother’s burial, which took place on Friday, June 3, 2016. This event is not the only one that has affected Lovato in the last months.
Not an Easy Year at All
As her song says, Lovato is giving her heart a break after almost a year of struggling with a number of losses that have shaken her to the core. Everything started in July 2015, when her dog, Buddy, was killed in a tragic accident that happened in the backyard.
In September, the singer’s great-grandfather died, age 88, and three months later she also lost her other dog, Spawn. All these tragic events culminated with the death of her great-grandmother, age 93, and her and Valderrama’s split at the beginning of this month.
Lovato and Valderrama: Based on Friendship
Lovato and Valderrama were in a relationship since 2010. As the actor declared in January, their longtime courtship was based on friendship and honesty: “All I did was love her exactly when she needed me to love her,” said Valderrama. On the other side, the singer, who is 12 years younger than Valderrama, appreciated his support and admitted that she “wouldn’t be alive without him.”
Despite the fact that they appeared to be a lovely couple, Lovato and Valderrama announced their split after nearly six years of dating. They posted a statement on social media, admitting that it was a difficult decision for both of them.
The message from the former couple mentioned that they both realized they are, more than anything, better as best friends. They also added they will be supportive of one another, but no other details had been revealed.
Lovato Has More Time for Her Career
Though she has never neglected her musical career, Lovato has now more time to invest in her own. Her last song, “Stone Cold,” was released on March 21, 2016, it is the third single on the album “Confident.”
Her fifth album, which was released in October 2015, debuted at number one in Canada and reached the top 10 in over fifteen countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
Going On Tour With Nick Jonas
At the end of June 2016, Lovato and Nick Jonas are going to start the Future Now Tour in Florida. Both Lovato and Jonas will promote their latest albums.
The two “Camp Rock” superstars will visit North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, and Nevada, in less than three months. The Future Now Tour will end on September 17, 2016, in California.
Lovato Is Not the Only One
The 23-year-old is not the only singer who has been through a break-up this summer. Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid are in the same situation and they both seem to be facing it very well. That may make Lovato stronger.
If this is not the case, she has a lot of great music of her own that’s meant to cure her little-broken heart. “Skyscraper,” “Let It Go” or “Confident” are just some examples.
