On Sunday, October 4, 2015, at approximately 8:30 a.m., police officers assigned to the Harrison (011th) District responded to a “man with a gun” call in the 3500 block of W. Grenshaw St. As officers arrived, a witness related that a person inside the residence had been shot. Officers attempted to enter the residence but were unable to gain entry as the door was locked. The officers verbally engaged the offender who refused to open the door.
Fearing for the life of the victim inside the residence, officers made forced entry. Officers observed a male subject armed with a handgun. The offender refused verbal commands to drop the weapon. The offender then charged the officers while pointing a handgun in the officers’ direction. In fear for their lives, the officers discharged their weapons fatally striking the offender. Inside the residence, officers discovered a female with a gunshot wound and several stab wounds.
The female victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. Officers were not injured during the incident. The matter remains under investigation and all further inquiries can be directed to the Independent Police Review Authority at 312-446-3298.
