Miami Police Seek Information in Theft of Patrol Car, Shootings

Miami police are seeking information in the theft of an officer’s patrol car and two separate shooting instances. At approximately 8:36 a.m. on April 14, 2015, a Miami officer was fired upon while driving his police unit. The officer had been traveling westbound on NW 79th Street when he pulled behind a taxi. The driver of the taxi exited his cab armed with a high-powered rifle and began shooting at the officer.

As a passerby helped the officer to a safe location, the taxi driver jumped into the officer’s marked patrol unit and fled the location, traveling eastbound on NW 79th Street and firing the rifle randomly out of the window. A bystander was hit by gunfire and is currently at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

The suspect was located in North Miami, where he was involved in another shooting. The North Miami Police Department has additional details.

The Miami Police Department’s Homicide Unit urges anyone with information to contact them at 305-603-6350. For those wishing to remain anonymous, information can be given to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477), at (select “Give a Tip”), or via text message at 274637 (enter CSMD followed by the tip).
