Kim Kardashian is in need of a reality check. The reality TV personality is overexposed and glorified for no reason whatsoever. Granted, she has managed to amass a fortune and build an empire, along with her mother and siblings, yet lacks any tangible or marketable skills. Perhaps, that is why she is one of the queens of reality TV. The genre itself is scripted, surreal nonsense amped up for dramatic purposes. Therefore, it stands to reason that a woman who made herself a household name via a sex tape would be crowded “queen of the jungle” that is reality TV.
Kardashian, who is now known as Kim Kardashian West, recently married longtime love and baby daddy, Kanye West. The rapper and media queen have started a family of their own with a young daughter, North. If the family dynamics alone are not enough to ensure 20 years of therapy for the youngster, her name, North West, will likely clinch the deal. However, at least no one can say the child does not have direction in life.
The Kardashian clan certainly has a thoroughly modern make-up to boost about. They are a blended family, of exotic origins, with biracial as well as eclectic pairings. For example, Kim is married to Kanye and Khloe was married to NBA star Lamar Odom. Then, of course, there is the recently revealed transgender parent, in the form of former Olympian stepfather, Bruce Jenner. However, it is not as if the Kardashians are new to the spotlight. After all, Kim’s parents are Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian, who was a famed litigator and made his name as part of O.J. Simpson’s 1995 legal defense team. Robert succumbed to esophageal cancer in 2003 and did not see his brood achieve fame via the E! cable network reality TV show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and other related programs. Despite their fame and fortune, one thing seems to remain unchanged. They appear to be a family unit who sticks together through good times and bad. However, that does not change the fact that Kim Kardashian is in need of a reality check.
In many ways, the reality TV queen is reminiscent of other celebrity types who are sorely out-of-touch with the actual, tangible real world. Similar to actress and Goop blogger Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently tried and epically failed to feed her family on a $29 food stamp budget, Kardashian needs a reality check of massive proportions to bring her back down to Earth. Otherwise, before the public knows it, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star will be starting her own pretentious blog where she rambles on about the “affordability” as well as must-have nature of $500 boots, in which every obnoxious elitist can budget for and should race to obtain. Perhaps, Kardashian should be next on Chef Mario Batali’s challenge list.
While Kim Kardashian may be a media queen, she is a person in desperate need of a reality check. Despite her millions of followers on social media and the success of her E! show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the reality TV star is overexposed and glorified for no reason whatsoever. While she has managed to amass a fortune and build an empire with the help of her family, Kardashian’s claim to fame lies in her body. From her much-lauded physical attributes to her much-talked-about sex tape, Kardashian has made a name for herself based on looks alone. Now, what type of message or measure of reality does that send?
