That is the real Tom Cruise hanging from a plane in the Mission Impossible 5 (MI5) a.k.a. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation trailer that is now out. No doubles or stuntmen were used for that scene, according to the star, who plays Ethan Hunt in the lucrative franchise.
While Tom Cruise called the whole experience “nerve-racking” for everyone who was watching as the scene was being filmed, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, he said that it was “pretty exciting for me.” Cruise stated that he “was standing right over the tires when we landed.”
Though Tom Cruise has been playing Ethan Hunt for almost 20 years now, he seems to have hardly aged a day since the first Mission Impossible movie came out. The movie is reported to be the most action-packed one of the franchise yet, and the scenes where Tom Cruise hangs from a plane are said to top the action of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, from 2011, when Cruise scaled Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The plane he is seen hanging from is an Airbus A400M. It “flew 5,000 feet over the U.K. countryside,” according to E! Online.
In Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Tom finds time in-between dispatching the bad guys to flirt with a new female agent, played by actress Rebecca Ferguson. Also, it looks like, based on the trailer, that Tom Cruise’s co-star and side-kick, Simon Pegg, Benji in the movie, will have a bigger role in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell) and Jeremy Renner, (Brandt) will, once again, reprise their roles.
The director of the latest Mission Impossible movie featuring Tom Cruise as the intrepid Ethan Hunt, Christopher McQuarrie, has worked with the actor before. He directed Tom Cruise in the movie, Jack Reacher, which he also wrote, and he wrote the screenplays for Cruise’s movies, Edge of Tomorrow and Valkyrie. The person who wrote the screenplay for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is Drew Pearce, who also worked on the screenplays of flicks like Godzilla and Iron Man 3.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, featuring Tom Cruise, is scheduled to open in theaters on July 31, 2015. It was originally planned to hit theaters later in the year, on Dec. 25, 2015, but the premiere was moved up to accommodate and not conflict with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which will open in theaters on December 18, 2015, and is directed by J.J. Abrams for Disney and Lucasfilm.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was the biggest-grossing movie in the franchise so far, grossing close to $695 million worldwide. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, reportedly even more action-packed and featuring actor, Tom Cruise, again doing spectacular stunts like hanging from planes as they are in flight, just might be an even bigger blockbuster than Ghost Protocol.
The plot of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation involves Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt and his M.I. team taking on a rogue syndicate that is trying to destroy them. Hunt and his team must take down the rogue syndicate, or be themselves taken down.
With Tom Cruise performing cool and action-packed stunts like hanging from planes, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation will likely pack fans of the franchise into theaters worldwide. Check out the trailer, below!
