WHAT: The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has announced that it is phasing out its elephant act by 2018, due to ever-increasing public concern about the treatment accorded the elephants. City of Los Angeles efforts (led legislatively by Councilmember Koretz) regarding elephants and circuses are widely considered to have been instrumental in this course of events.
