Jada Pinkett-Smith Cuts Bait and Will Not Be Back on ‘Gotham’ Next Year

Jada Pinkett-Smith has decided to cut bait and she will not be returning next season to Gotham as the villainous character, Fish Mooney. Gotham has had pretty good ratings and Fox has already renewed the series for a second season with still five episodes left of the first season to go, but Jada, the wife of actor Will Smith, said on Friday, March 6 on Live! With Kelly And Michael that she had only signed for one year “and the year’s up.”

The character of the mobster, Fish Mooney, was not one that was in the original Batman comics. Jada Pinkett-Smith, 43, has stated that it was a character created just for her, and she has had a lot of creative input in developing the character and her psychological motivations.

The actress adds her own flair and style to whatever role that she takes on, and Jada Pinkett-Smith stated on Live! With Kelly And Michael that there will be “some great things coming ahead on Gotham.” Jada Pinkett-Smith added that the first season of Gotham will conclude with a bang.

Jada Pinkett-Smith is a major reason why many fans have been tuning in to watch Gotham. Fish Mooney is twisted and ruthless, and in a recent episode, she even gouged out one of her eyes and then stepped on on it in a scene reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies. Jada Pinkett-Smith said that after she read the script of that particular episode of Gotham, she thought that her character, Fish Mooney, “would get down like this.”

The lovely-looking Jada Pinkett-Smith related to Kelly and Michael that she has really enjoyed playing a villain. As the wife of Will smith put it, “I get to do extreme things. She’s evil and that’s always so much fun.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith brought a feeling of spring to the show on Friday by wearing a pastel dress and colorful sequined stiletto-heeled shoes designed by Kurt Geiger. Though the actress only signed up to play the mobster Fish Mooney for the debut season, Jada Pinkett-Smith will be back on the Silver Screen this summer, on July 1, 2015, when she stars in Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to Magic Mike, alongside actors Elizabeth Banks, Amber Heard and Channing Tatum.

Besides breaking the news on Live! With Kelly And Michael and her social media accounts that she will not be back for the second season of Gotham, self-proclaimed “comic book fan” Jada Pinkett-Smith said in an interview with Extra host A.J. Calloway “We’re done.”

While it seems like only yesterday that Gotham debuted, it premiered back in September 2014. The Fox TV series is about the formative years of Bruce Wayne (played by David Mazouz), who later becomes Batman. The TV series has related the origins of some DC Comics Batman villains, like the Penguin, whose alter-ego is Oswald Cobblepot. The actor who plays the dual role is Robin Lord Taylor. Gotham also relates the origins of such iconic Batman characters as Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred, and Detective James Gordon, who is played by Ben McKenzie.

Jada Pinkett-Smith expressed her happiness to Live! With Kelly And Michael hosts Kelly and Michael that she had been given the opportunity to play the villainous mobster, fish Mooney, on Gotham. The actress will be cutting bait, though, after the conclusion of the show’s first season, and she will not be returning for the second season. Jada Pinkett-Smith assured her fans that, despite her exit from the series, there will still be “a lot of good stuff coming” in the remaining episodes of the first season.

While Jada Pinkett-Smith stated that she will not be back playing Fish Mooney in the second season of Gotham, she has not mentioned if their might be a chance she will return in a future season of the Fox series. Even if her character appears to possibly get killed off in an upcoming episode of Gotham, later on, a reasonable explanation for how she managed to somehow survive might be thought up by the writers of the series. Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith might, one day, decide to wade back into the murky waters of Gotham’s criminal underworld and emerge a bigger “fish” than she ever was before.

  1. Who is writing that kind of crap for black women on TV? Is there even ONE Normal character? You’ve got the unwholesome SCANDAL character, the unwholesome HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER CHARACTER, and the Preposterously Crazy, unwholesome Gotham character played by Pinkett Smith. Insane. And Depressing.
