Magic Mike XXL is the hotly anticipated sequel to the 2012 adult blockbuster Magic Mike starring Channing Tatum and has just debuted its steamy first trailer. The trailer and news of Magic Mike XXL have been swarming the internet ever since the footage was revealed earlier today.
Tatum took to Twitter last night to post a photo of the official poster for the new film. The photo showcased a shirtless Tatum flaunting his stuff in a ball cap and bandana with the film’s title featured on the poster and the words “he’s coming” with the movie’s release date listed below. The actor’s caption of the photo stated that viewers can look, but not touch…until tomorrow. His remark was an insinuation of a full-length movie trailer that was to be released, which proved to be true when Tatum made an appearance on The Ellen Show today and premiered the first official footage of Magic Mike XXL.
The Ellen Show host, Ellen DeGeneres, had a small part in some of the casting for the new film. For those that view DeGeneres’s show on a regular basis, they will know of the talk show host’s special gardener, Nick. DeGeneres would often make a number of comical innuendos regarding Nick the gardener who never seemed to be wearing a shirt. When DeGeneres discovered that Nick the gardener actually had aspirations of breaking into the world of film acting, she picked up the phone and made a direct call on her show to the producers of Magic Mike XXL. DeGeneres acquired an audition for Nick the gardener and he ended up booking a small part in the film. His role in the film still remains unknown, but it has been confirmed by both DeGeneres and Tatum that Nick the Gardener will be a featured player in Magic Mike XXL.
A rather disappointing factor to followers of the original film is that fan favorite Matthew McConaughey will not be reprising his role as Dallas the owner of the male strip club that Tatum’s character performs in alongside a number of other male dancers. Fellow original cast members Olivia Munn of The Newsroom and Alex Pettyfer of I Am Number Four will also not be seen in the sequel. A slew of newcomers are making an appearance to fill the empty spots now, though. Notable cast members coming on board for the first time include Elizabeth Banks, Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Jada Pinkett Smith.
The original film ended with Tatum’s character working his way out of the strip club scene and beginning pursuit of his long-time dream of creating custom-made furniture. The new trailer begins with Tatum as Magic Mike working in his furniture creation studio until he hears the tunes of the R&B classic “Pony” by Ginuwine and breaks out in a dance routine of his own. The rest of the trailer reveals Tatum alongside a number of returning cast members including Matt Bomer and former WWE star Kevin Nash back to the “grind” in what seems to be a more upscale strip club than previously seen in the first film.
Audiences will get the chance to see Tatum and company bare it all once again when Magic Mike XXL hits theaters this summer. The official release date of the film is July 1, 2015 and the newly released trailer can be viewed in the E! link in the sources below.
