Los Angeles Police Confirm Suge Knight Killed Friend With His Vehicle

Los Angeles police from the County Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that Death Row Records founder, Suge Knight, killed one of his friends with his vehicle Thursday afternoon while on the set shooting a promo for the Straight Outta Compton (Universal) in Compton. According to his lawyer’s office, he was involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Compton, though no one there at the time verified that Knight was driving the vehicle. Knight allegedly put his car in reverse and ran over and killed his friend, Terry Carter, and also struck and injured one of the actors, Cle Sloan, whose condition is not known.

The “vehicle versus pedestrian” incident involving Suge Knight occurred at the corner of Rosecrans and Central avenues, according to a report by USA Today. Straight Outta Compton is based on the origins and rise to fame of hip-hop group N.W.A. The biographical drama stars Paul Giamatti, who will be the manager of N.W.A., Jerry Heller. It also features a cast of young and talented actors including Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, O’Shea Jackson Jr. playing Ice Cube, and Jason Mitchell in the role of Eazy-E, among others.

Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and The Game were on a different set for Straight Outta Compton in another part of the city when Suge allegedly back his vehicle into his friend, Carter, and killed him. Before the deadly crash happened, Ice Cube posted a photo of the shoot going on where he was on his Instagram account. e captioned the photo “Me, Dre and The Game shooting a commercial in Compton.”

An article in TMZ reported that before the incident occurred, Suge and two people in the film crew got into a fight. Then, Suge Knight reportedly got into his car, put it into reverse and ran over his friend, who reportedly was attempting to get into Suge’s passenger door.

According to sheriff’s deputy Trina Schrader, the crash was reported at about 2:55 p.m. One person was killed and a second one was transported to a nearby hospital. The person’s condition has not yet been announced. An investigation is still ongoing.

Suge Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records, and comedian Katt Williams were arrested in September 2014 in Beverly Hills for allegedly having stolen a female photographer’s camera. He and Williams are still waiting for their trail date on the robbery charge.

Also, in August, at a pre-MTV VMA’s Sunset Strip party hosted by Chris Brown, Suge Knight was shot multiple times. The party occurred on the eve of the MTV VMAs awards show.

Suge Knight started up Death Row Records in 1991, and he soon had signed up many musical artists who would become big stars. Tupac Shakur and Snoop Doggy Dogg, who later became known as Snoop Dogg and still later as Snoop Lion, where two of the singers that Knight managed to sign. Knight was driving the car Tupac was in when Shakur was shot and killed in 1996 in Las Vegas.

Not very long after the shooting death of Tupac Shakur, Suge Knight spent several years in prison on a violation of his parole. He had been convicted on both weapons and assault charges. That helped contribute to Death Row Records going bankrupt in 2006.

Suge Knight has been a major force in the world of hip-hop and rap music, whose influence cannot be denied. He has also often been at the center of incidents that have turned violent and which have occasionally resulted in the deaths of people close to him. The vehicle which he was either driving or a passenger in, which run over his friend, Terry Carter, and killed him and injured actor Cle Sloan, is the latest in a number of such deadly and tragic incidents.
