Kanye West and Paul McCartney have released a heartfelt, minimalist New Years Eve surprise with the poignant ballad, Only One. Kanye sings, with McCartney playing the keyboards and providing background vocals. Some Yeezus fans might not like Only One, but it has become the favorite Kanye song of his wife, Kim Kardashian West. The audio of the song is below!

The new Auto-Tuned collaboration from Kanye West and Paul McCartney is a song written from the perspective of Kanye’s mother, Donda, who passed away due to complications from surgery, in 2007. Kanye has stated that his first name means “Only one.” Some fans of Kanye West, 37, believe Only One might signal West’s next album being more of a throwback to albums like his 808s and Heartbreak, rather than a continuation of the style of his songs on Yeezus.

One of the lines of Only One is “Remember how I’d say one day/You’ll be the man you always knew you would be.” Kim Kardashian West wrote in a Twitter post “I cry every time I hear this song.”

The emotional song by Kanye West and Paul McCartney also signals more songs that will be coming out which the two musical artists have collaborated on. One of Kanye West’s spokesmen stated that Only One is just the first “publicly available recording,” that the pair has worked together on. The musical collaboration between the two, according to the spokesman, was “prolific.”

Reportedly, the two legendary musical artists began working on Only One in Los Angeles a few months ago. The song began with a “brainstorming session,” between Kanye West and Paul McCartney. McCartney played the keyboards while West sang a stream-of-consciousness type of riff.

Paul McCartney has liked Kanye West’s music at least dating back to 2013. In a Twitter Q&A, McCartney said that the last three albums he “bought were by Kanye West, the National, the Civil Wars and Jay Z.”

Besides being inspired by his mother, Kanye West has stated he also gained inspiration from his daughter, North. He said he sang the lyrics “Hello, my only one,” to her, and he remembered that his mom had sung those same words to him, when he was a boy. He said that he felt his mother “was singing to me, and through me to my daughter,” as he was singing those words to his mother.

Other musicians Kanye West has collaborated with in the past include Coldplay and rapper Jay Z. Only One marks the first time that West has collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney. McCartney still continues to make music, release albums and tour around the world.

Though Only One came out in the United States late on New Years Eve, it will reportedly be available through iTunes for one week in 119 different countries.

Though a collaboration between Kanye West and Paul McCartney might seem to be a little bit strange, upon first hearing about it, West has written quite a few heartfelt, emotional songs in the past, and McCartney is adept at singing a wide variety of music, as well. With Only One, the world might be just getting the first installment of music from this pair of musical artists. Check out the audio version of Only One, below!
