Golden Globe Awards Expectations

Golden Globe Awards Expectations

The Golden Globe Awards are only a few hours away and the expectations for this year’s ceremony could not be greater. Comedic legends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return yet again as the co-hosts of the Golden Globe Awards and audiences are most definitely in for a good, hearty laugh with these two running the show.

In an interview conducted this past Wednesday, Fey was asked what jokes viewers could expect to hear on the night of the ceremony. The actress responded by saying that her and Poehler actually had not written anything for the show yet and that they should probably get on that. The comedians obviously work well under pressure and like to cram as they have had only a few short days to organize the entirety of an awards show. Not to worry though, as the two stars are known to have excellent chemistry together and never cease to put a smile on audiences’ faces when they are together.

The contenders for the awards this year are all very strong competitors, indeed. Actors and actresses from the world of both TV and film will congregate at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles to celebrate yet another incredibly entertaining and successful year in show business. Hubbub has surrounded a select few of the nominees as possible winners, but, in truth, the gold can easily go home with anyone.

Eddie Redmayne is receiving rave reviews from critics and much praise from movie goers for his portrayal of a young Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. The Hollywood Foreign Press tends to favor actors who portray actual people so Redmayne has a very strong chance of dominating the Golden Globe Awards, although David Oyelowo’s performance as Martin Luther King, Jr. could give him a run for his money.

Julianne Moore is a well-established actress and is nominated in two acting categories this year, one for Best Actress in a Dramatic Motion Picture for Still Alice and another for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Maps to the Stars. Followers of the Golden Globe Awards are pointing to Moore to take home the award for her portrayal of a woman diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s although she is up against a number of strong competitors including Reese Witherspoon for her part in Wild and the likes of Rosamund Pike from Gone Girl.

This year has been an excellent one for television with many new series getting the greenlight. Amazon’s Transparent is nominated for Best Musical or Comedic TV Series as is its lead actor Jeffrey Tambor for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedic TV Series. The CW has also brought Jane the Virgin to life, which has been received very well, earning its lead actress, Gina Rodriguez, a nod and very well may be a vital tool in jumpstarting her career.

Amidst the outstanding performances that will be highlighted at the Golden Globe Awards, one must not forget the whole of the incredible movies that were released this year. Rob Marshall brought a musical theatre classic to the silver screen with Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, which is comprised of an all-star cast. The likes of Boyhood is also an incredible milestone in cinema, as it was filmed over the course of a twelve year time span.

The Golden Globe Awards are filled to the brim with many outstanding expectations. One can take comfort in knowing that the ceremony will undoubtedly be conducted very well. The Golden Globe Awards will premiere tonight, live on NBC.
