Fifty Shades of Grey Raunchy Scene Cut from Film

Fifty Shades of Grey Raunchy Scene Cut from Film

Fifty Shades of Grey is the global phenomenon that swept the literary world with its steamy romance trilogy by British author E. L. James. Now the film version of the first book is about to be released in theaters and fans of the text may see one of the novel’s more raunchy scenes missing from the final cut of the film.

The film has garnered an understandable “R” rating being that the original text provides extremely explicit content, but the movie may not get as raw as James’ books. Readers of the book know of a rather infamous scene in the novel where the lead male character Christian Grey actually removes the lead female, Anastasia Steele’s, tampon so the two can engage in a conjugal encounter. A very bold piece by James to put into the book, one that received a number of reactions from readers ranging from shuttering in utter disgust to strangely being turned on.

Fifty Shades of Grey is known for its kinky sex, but it appears as if that particular incident of kink will not be shown to the masses in glorious cinematic high definition. Director of the film, Sam Taylor-Johnson, thinks her cutting of the scene is done rightfully so. It apparently was not even discussed whether the scene was going to be in the film or not, it reportedly served no purpose in furthering the plot for the movie and was left out of conversation completely. Although fans never enjoy seeing their favorite novels condensed on screen, one can be pretty sure that this particular scene may not be heavily missed.

The film has had a seven month marketing campaign with the first trailer for the film releasing all the way back in the summer of 2014. Reasoning for delaying the film’s release was to keep the movie from being swallowed amongst the box office monsters of all the summer’s blockbuster movies. Instead, the film will receive a fitting Valentine’s Day holiday release date, opening in theaters on Feb. 13.

Fifty Shades of Grey is anticipated to do very well at the box office, estimating roughly $45 million for its opening weekend. The movie seems to be following in the footsteps of the Twilight saga, the series in which its story is based on. The two leading actors were relatively unknown when they were cast and many fans of the book had very strong opinions about the casting for both series. Twilight served as a huge platform for skyrocketing the careers of its stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as well as a few of the supporting cast members like Anna Kendrick. Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to do the same for the film’s leading lady Dakota Johnson and its leading man, Irish actor Jamie Dornan.

A few songs from the soundtrack to Fifty Shades of Grey have been released and been received well. The Weekend has released a music video for the song they sing on the track, “Earned It”, and the BDSM theme present in Fifty Shades of Grey is also seen throughout the music video. The film’s star, Johnson, is also in this music video, all tied-up and resembling a more censored version of what she will be like in some of the movie’s steamier scenes.

Although the raunchy tampon scene has been cut from the Fifty Shades of Grey film, it will undoubtedly be filled to the brim with plenty of other examples of raunchiness. The film opens worldwide on Feb. 13, 2015.

  1. I disagree with all the fuss regarding the casting of Jamie. Anyone that has seen “the fall” knows that Jamie Dornan is exactly what they needed for Christian. He is very good at portraying the ever changing mood swings, and has a very hypnotic stare to him! I agree Ian was a good choice as well but I think Jamie is the best pick of all.
