Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live) are parents once again, as the Avengers: Age of Ultron star gave birth to her second child just three weeks ago. Smulders casually revealed the information at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, while being interviewed by Bustle, as she was promoting her latest film, Unexpected.
The good news about the birth of her second child somewhat nonchalantly came out when she was saying in the interview that she could really connect with the themes of motherhood in Unexpected. Smulders, 32, definitely let the proverbial cat out of the bag when she stated “I have a three week old baby, so I can certainly relate.”
Cobie Smulders plays inner-city school teacher, Samantha Abbot, in her Sundance film. After she discovers she is pregnant with a baby she did not plan to have, she has to decide how to deal with the situation.
The couple first confirmed that Cobie Smulders was pregnant with their second child this past October 2014. They got engaged in 2009, in January. Cobie Smulders gave birth to Shaelyn Cado, the couple’s first child, in May of the same year. Cobie Smulders and Tarna Killam dated for eight years and were engaged for three of the eight before they got married in September 2012.
Judging by how thin and beautiful she looked as Cobie Smulders was promoting Unexpected at the annual 2015 Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, she must not have put on very much weight during her pregnancy. She has to look slim and fit for roles like that of Maria Hill, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., in movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, after all.
Besides being one of the stars in Avengers: Age of Ultron, that will be coming out in theaters later this year, and Unexpected, Smulders will also star in a movie called Results as the character, Kat. Her husband, the hilarious comedian Taran Killam, is currently busy working on the comedy films Casual Encounters, which is in post-production, and Brothers in Law.
Neither Cobie Smulders, who also did the voice of Wonder Woman in The Lego Movie, nor Taran Killam have yet announced the name or sex of their second child, who was born earlier in January 2015. Though she is perhaps still best known for her role in How I Met Your Mother as Robin Scherbatsky, Smulders is rapidly also making herself known for her versatile acting abilities in several movies.
Cobie Smulders mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that her pregnancy coincided with that of her character, Samantha Abbot, in Unexpected. However, she was not showing all that much during the shooting of the movie, so she admitted that “we still had to do a lot of fake bellies.”
The announcement that Cobie Smulders made during an interview at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on Sunday that she had given birth to her second child came as a surprise to many people. Although the news that she was pregnant was known, few people realized exactly how far along she was, or that she had already given birth, until Sunday. The staff of The Public Slate wishes to offer our congratulations to Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam on the birth of their second child.
