United States Senator John Cornyn won his re-election bid in Texas, easily defeating Democratic challenger David Alameel. In the staunchly red state, many GOP candidates have won their seats. For Democrats, it was always a long-shot that they would turn Texas blue and it seems as though it is still not their year. Cornyn is a key part of the Republican bid for the Senate and is currently the Senate minority whip under Mitch McConnell. He has been a senator since 2002.
