Democratic challenger Gwen Graham has beaten a Tea Party Republican in order to be elected to Florida’s District 2. She unseated the right wing incumbent Steve Sutherland with a one percent lead after 99 percent of the votes had been reported. She ran on a platform of bi-partisanship, criticizing the extreme partisan politics that have contributed to deadlock in the legislative branch. This may have resonated with voters used to the extreme right wing agenda of the tea party, which launched Sutherland to power. The Florida district race was one of the most expensive congressional races of the 2014 campaign season, listed in the top ten most expensive races by the Center for Responsive Politics.
