Apple has stated that it has tasked its software engineers with investigating if and how the iCloud accounts of numerous celebrities were hacked which led to “private” nude photos being released on the internet. The hacked accounts resulted in a serious breach of privacy for over 100 Hollywood models, actresses and vocal artists including Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Rihanna and Kate Upton.
By some accounts a hacker was able to exploit an iCloud vulnerability which may have involved Apple’s “Find my Phone” app. The nude photos were posted onto the image site 4Chan and currently celebrities and their public relations teams are scrambling to diffuse the repercussions of the privacy violation, as well as threatening legal action against the hackers.
